Read Frank Lampard's Decision on Midfielder Danny Drinkwater
Chelsea’s new boss, Frank Lampard has taken a final decision on the future of Midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to Evening Standard.
The Englishman promised all his players a clean slate and Drinkwater will be one of those looking to turn his fortunes around at Stamford Bridge.
The 29-year-old former Leicester City man is in line to feature in the friendly against Bohemians as Lampard begins his reign.
Drinkwater will look to begin the resurrection of his career in Chelsea’s friendly match in Dublin on Wednesday night.
The midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge in 2017 from Leicester for £35million.
He, has, however, failed to establish himself, making just one appearance last season.
The squad is expected to include several youngsters, although senior players such as Cesar Azpilicueta, Pedro and Drinkwater are likely to be in action.
Striker Michy Batshuayi, who spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, is also in contention to play.
Tonight’s match is the first of seven pre-season fixtures for Chelsea.
The team’s captain, Azpilicueta believes the match will show fans what they can expect from a Lampard team.
“The manager has explained how he wants us to play and we are all enjoying the camp so far,” the Spaniard told Evening Standard.
“We want to play with high intensity and we want to be dominant,” he said.
